Volunteering at Brown School

All volunteers, whether helping in the classroom, chaperoning a field trip, or working in the building, need to fill out an application form every year.  It will be remain on file at Brown School for the year by Volunteer Coordinator Ali Gant.  If you need a form, it can downloaded from 'Resources' below.

A volunteer training schedule will be provided soon in the PTA newsletter.  Please choose one of these opportunities before working with children.  If you attended a session within the last two years, you do not have to attend one this year.

Parent Drop Off Loop

The parent drop-off circle is strictly for dropping off children before and picking up children after school.  If you need to get out of your car for any reason, you should be in a parking space, not in the circle, otherwise cars get backed out onto Highland Avenue or kids try to unsafely run between cars in the loop!  While it may seem inconvenient to find a parking space, the teachers voluntarily park in the lower lot to keep upper lot spaces vacant.

Food Sample Buffet Recipes

Japanese Green Beans

½ cup soy or tamari sauce

¼ cup sesame seeds

2 TBL sugar

½ pound green beans

Roast seeds on the stovetop or in oven at 400 degrees (stir often to avoid burning). Smash seeds with spoon or blend in a food processor to make a mortar paste.

Mix sugar, soy sauce and seeds.

Toss with steamed string beans and serve.

Rice Balls

2 Cups Japanese sticky rice

Black sesame seeds

Salt

Water

Cook sticky rice according to directions. Let cool a bit. Dip your hands in water, then dip your hands in salt (lightly), take small handful of rice and roll into small meatball size. Roll in sesame seeds. Let cool on cookie sheet or wax paper.

Note: make sure you wet your hands each time before you roll into ball-rice will be too sticky to form if you don’t.

Note: The Japanese also put dates and other fruits in the center, and then roll the rice around the fruit.
