Brown Elementary School

Ms.Weeks, Mrs. LaRose and Ms. Dixon

My name is Elizabeth Weeks and I teach first grade at Frank I. Brown Elementary. I graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I began teaching in South Portland in 1985 at Brown School in a second grade classroom. I have taught many grades including Kindergarten, K-1 multiage, second grade, as well as fourth grade. Teaching the students of South Portland is a positively wonderful job! When I am not busy working in the classroom, I love to camp and spend days at the lake with my family. I enjoy spending my winter weekends skiing and snowboarding.

My name is Denise LaRose. I am one of the first grade teachers here at Brown school. I have been a teacher for seventeen years, I have taught Kindergarten, a first and second grade multiage, second grade and fourth grade. I am very happy to be teaching first grade again! Guiding first graders as they become true readers and writers is very exciting! I know we will have a wonderful year!

I graduated from USM with a BA in Sociology in 1979. Years later after receiving my teaching certification, I received my masters in literacy education. Although literacy is always a focus for me, I enjoy the rigors of the math and science curriculum. In my free time I enjoy cooking, walking, and writing. But my greatest joy is spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren!

If you would like to know more about my program, please check out my website I will be updating it as the year goes on. Of special interest to you might be the online game page which is suitable for first graders.

Please feel free to contact me. I can be best reached by email at delarose@maine.rr.com or through the school email at larosede@spsd.org

Happy Reading,
Denise LaRose
