Public Awareness & Safety Information
Winter 2012
Dear Brown School Families and Friends,
November 22, 2011 marked the end of the first trimester of the 2011-12 school year.
It has been a very busy three months here at Brown School. We welcomed a large group of
new kindergarten students as well as 35 other students who were new to our community. I’m
happy to report that everyone has settled in and they are enjoying being part of our school
community. Much of that is the result of the work of our great staff. During August 2011, 16
staff members participated in a week long RESPONSIVE CLASS ROOM course. One of the key
components of this course was learning strategies for building community, within the classroom
and throughout the school. Each class starts the school day with a Morning Meeting.
Also, each classroom developed classroom rules based on their hopes and dreams for the
school year. These rules were then consolidated into 3 basic school rules. TAKE CARE OF
YOURSELF, TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER and TAKE CARE OF OUR SCHOOL. This is the basis of
our BROWN SCHOOL says YES program. Each morning we announce the names of students
who have been observed following our school rules. Those names are added to the bulletin
board in the main hallway near the office.
